My Favorite Books Read In 2013

2013 was a great year for books. I started to use the library again and found a wealth of great authors and novels. I also started listening to my other half when he recommended books and although he was way off most of the time, he hit the nail on the head one or two times! These are the books I rated 5 stars this year; with the novel details I will provide a short summary of my opinion on the book.
  • And When She Was Good – Laura Lippman. Heloise is facing a midlife crisis with higher stakes than anyone could imagine in this gripping, chilling thriller.
  • A Street Cat Named Bob James Bowen. The moving, uplifting true story of an unlikely friendship between a man on the streets and a ginger cat who adopts him and helps him heal his life. Heartwarming.
  • The World According to Bob James Bowen. The sequel to the above, this book continues the tale of James and Bob's life together and the ways the ginger cat has helped James turn his life around.
  • Reconstructing Amelia Kimberley McCreight. A grieving mother's suspicions her daughter didn't kill herself are confirmed when she receives an anonymous text; a slightly epistolary novel full of emotion.
  • Home Front Kristin Hannah. A profoundly honest look at modern marriage and a dramatic portrayal of the effects of war on an ordinary American family. A moving story of love, loss, heroism, honor and hope.
  • Labyrinth Kate Mosse.  A startling discovery of two crumbling skeletons, strange writings on the walls of a cave and a labyrinth pattern commence a strange series of events told from the past and present.
  • Sister Rosamund Lupton. Nothing can break the bond between sisters, so when Beatrice's sister, Tessa, goes missing she refuses to accept the loss as her mother and Tessa's fiance have done. Gripping and creepy.

I have to say it was another great year for reading. I've already picked up some of the sequels to some of these novels and am eagerly looking forward to reading them. These books are a must-read!
