End of Summer Skincare Tips || Guest Post

We’re well into the second half of August and with September lurking around the corner waiting its turn, it’s time to get our summer affairs in order and get ready to say goodbye. Soon enough we’ll be sitting in front of our wardrobes, packing up our gorgeous summer outfits and busting out our transition pieces. The gist is pretty much the same when it comes to skincare. It’s time to say farewell to the light moisturizers, tinted creams, and glittery body lotions to make room in your bathroom cabinets and vanities for the new members that will comprise your skincare arsenal. To that end, we are here with some more than helpful tips on how to prep your skin so autumn doesn’t catch it off guard.

Before it’s too late to apologize

Hey, don’t beat yourself up, it happens to the best of us. Summer, with all its charms, comes with certain downsides and those downsides go by the name of sun-induced dark spots. Other “great” souvenirs left as a consequence of excessive sun exposure are dehydrated and leathery skin. The perspiration, the heat, it all takes a toll on the skin, which is why the best defence is a good offence.
Start by gently but regularly exfoliating your skin two to three times a week. It will help remove all the dead skin cells and reveal a glowing complexion. There are great affordable facial scrubs and exfoliators, and you can even make your own. Now, since almost the entire body is exposed during summer – gotta love those sun-dresses – full body exfoliation is in order, so get a good body scrub and give dry brushing a chance. This ancient grooming ritual will help increase blood flow, get rid of dead cells and even help with any cellulite issues.

We have to talk about the sun some more

As for those dark spots, tend to them before it does become too late to apologize, to your skin that is, and invest in a great serum that targets sun-damaged skin and hyper-pigmentation. The incredible and effective Aspect Dr skin care line includes powerful serums that can address any of the mentioned conditions, so make sure you give them a try, and your skin will thank you – you will have nothing to apologize for.

Pick it and stick to it

You know the rules – change the seasons, change the skincare products. Designers have pre-fall and fall collections and skincare brands have their own version. It’s time to switch from light to more nourishing moisturizers, and best cleansers for the transition season. You probably already have your go-to favourites, but just in case you don’t, the Malin+Goetz SPF 30 Face Moisturizer is a tried, tested and highly recommended product and for three reasons.
First, it gives the skin that extra nourishment without feeling heavy or greasy on the face. Second, it contains an SPF 30, which gives you the chance to kill two birds with one stone. Every dermatologist out there will tell you that it’s vital to apply sunblock all year round as the UV rays don’t go away with the summer and your skin is always at risk, so why not protect it by using a product that does exactly that, plus moisturizes the skin. Third, it’s super affordable so it won’t break the bank, and everyone loves a good bargain, provided it’s great quality too.

Not a glitter in sight

Yes, unfortunately the season of shimmering glittery skin will soon be over. As gorgeous as these lotions make our skin look, as summer comes to its end it truly is time to switch to something with more nourishing properties, so make sure you spend those glorious glitters before making room for rich and luxurious body butters. Coconut and Shea butter based ones are the best possible choice as they deeply ‘feed’ and pamper the skin in this post-summer era, but if these scents aren’t really up your alley, there are tons of other scents out there, especially if you look in such stores as The Body Shop or Lush.

Kiss me hard before you go

The summertime sadness is real, we know, but there is one little part of your face that you should never be oblivious to, especially if you do wish to look and be kissable. Nourishing lip balms trump the tinted ones by a landslide, so during this time, sheer things up and stock up on your must-have lip balms. Having more than one is the smartest thing to do as we often change purses, and as we all know, there is the Bermuda triangle for lip balms and socks. So, in case one or two fall into it, it’s always good to have a backup and carry it with you wherever you go as this will be the product you’ll use most frequently throughout the day. While on the subject of throwing things in purses, it might be a good idea to snag a good hand cream while you’re shopping for other skincare goodies. An Indian summer may or may not come, so don’t take any chances. Keep those hands soft and protected.

You’re all set with the tips. Now, all you have to do is hurry up, spend those summertime goodies so they don’t go to waste, and make way for the new leading products in your life.
