Catching some ZZZ's* || With Adjustamatic

*This is a collaborative post*

Did you know that the average person, sleeping for eight hours a day, will spend 229,961 hours of their life asleep? The average person sleeps one third of their life away...! As depressing as that is (look at much living we're missing out on by sleeping so damn much!) sleep is absolutely vital to our physical and emotional well-being. Hands up who else is a grumpy bitch after an awful night's sleep? Yeah, me too! A short temper, irritability, lack of concentration, being overly emotional, and other health issues are side-effects of a lack of sleep. So how much sleep do you really need, and how can you get the best night's sleep you've ever had?

In a recent survey, Adjustamatic found that almost 80% of the 400 people surveyed believed they needed between seven and nine hours of sleep per night. In reality, the amount of sleep you need varies greatly depending on your age. A baby, for example, needs 17 hours of sleep. Whereas the average adults only needs eight hours of sleep per night. Adjustamatic also found that a common sleep complaint was...not getting enough! 30% of people surveyed said that noise pollution, e.g. snoring partners, kept them awake at night. And 24% said that the room temperature was to blame. I mean, who isn't going to be fussy when it comes to the perfect sleeping conditions?!

How can you improve your sleep habits then? If you struggle with insomnia, and find yourself tossing and turning all night long, then read on for some tried and tested tips that'll have you sleeping like a baby tonight!

1. Ban blue light emitting devices an hour before bedtime. Think mobile phones, tablets and laptops. The blue light emitted by these devices stops the production of melatonin, the hormone that makes us feel sleepy and regulates our circadian rhythm. Avoid the blue light in the hour, or two, before bed and you'll find yourself drifting off quicker and waking up feeling refreshed!

2. Avoid caffeine. Bit of an obvious one, I know, but caffeine will only make switching off and going to sleep harder. If you like a cup of tea, or coffee before bed, why not make the switch to decaf? I did, years ago, and I never regretted it! Even better; switch your night-time brew for a mug of hot chocolate!

3. Invest in a decent bed! It's amazing how much of a difference a decent bed can make to your sleep habits. Electric beds are definitely a worthwhile investment. Adjustamatic's adjustable beds feature their unique NHC Cyclo-Therapy massage system and can improve mobility, promote relaxation and ease the pain associated with a range of medical conditions. Which means you're bound to get a good night's sleep, right?
