Christian Aid Week is something I can really get behind. The world is a scary place right now - full of sadness, fear and desperation. The UK faces an unsettling time, as Brexit marches forward, and a General Election looms. The US faces four more years of Trump. The less said about that, the better. And refugees flee their homes, risking their children's lives and leaving everything they know behind. Why? Because the alternative is terror, bombs and bullets. Almost anything is better. Christian Aid have stood behind refugees since 1945; and this Christian Aid Week they're asking you to help them, too. So how can you get involved?
1.Run a Big Brekkie fundraiser this Christian Aid Week!Big or small; in your home or in your church; with your friends, family or both. Break bread together, so refugees can too.
2. Knock on some doors. Go house-to-house around your neighbourhood and strike up a conversation with your neighbours about Christian Aid Week. Ask them to donate what they can; I'm sure you'll be surprised by people's generosity!
3. Join thousands of churches holding a service for Christian Aid Week. Use Christian Aid's worship resources in your church service this week and raise money to help transform the lives of struggling refugees.
4. Donate now. £5 could give a refugee in Europe two nutritious meals. £50 could buy a stove for refugees to cook their own food. £285 could buy refrigerators for a community kitchen in a refugee camp. Donate whatever you can spare; every little helps!
Charles Dickens said it best, I think, when he said; "No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another." It's time to do whatever you can this Christian Aid Week, and going forward, to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Don't delay - start today!
