My Favourite Scary Movies

With Halloween just around the corner, and it being my favourite time of the year, I thought it was high time to share some of my favourite scary movies. Hopefully my list will inspire you and give you something scary to watch on All Hallow's Eve.

Whilst it didn't scare me in the traditional sense, Get Out is a film that totally freaked me out. And it's stuck with me, for more reasons than one. After watching this, you'll never be able to hear the sound of a teaspoon stirring in a china cup the same way again.

Now this film did scare me in the traditional sense. Scared the pants off me, in fact. There aren't a lot of horror films that can affect me, I consider myself pretty hardened in fact. But The Babadook spooked me big time, and I haven't dared watch it again since. 

Found footage films are a lot of creepy. The Blair Witch Project gets a bad rap but, in my opinion, is a pretty creepy film. Just maybe swerve the sequel. It's pretty poor in comparison.

Drag Me To Hell has all the hallmarks of a great horror movie. Creepy, gory, gruesome, terrifying. Just watch out for the animal sacrifice scene. I always have to skip over that one.

I've watched this film more times than I can count, and I couldn't tell you what keeps pulling me back to it. It might be the realism aspect. A bunch of girls on an adventure holiday. A cave full of bloodthirsty monsters. Not so far-fetched really, is it?

Split is a fantastic film for both it's portrayal of a serious mental illness and it's ability to keep you feeling unsettled throughout. One of those films that's less supernatural scary, more realistic scary.

Seven isn't your typical ghostly/spooky horror movie. But it's scary, nevertheless. Also gory, gruesome and disgusting. With a fantastic, fast-paced story-line to keep you guessing throughout.

Now for something supernatural again. More sci-fi than supernatural, The Mist is just fantastically atmospheric and creepy. And that ending. Wow!

The Saw films are some of my all-time favourites. It's pretty gruesome, the story-line's a bit rubbish (even more so as the series goes on) and it's pure blood and gore. But it's disturbing and creepy nonetheless. 

A Quiet Place reminded me of The Mist. It was fantastically creepy, and had my heart racing throughout. So, so disturbing!
